Books Bought and Nook Considered

Okay, I have posted a couple times already within the last week but wanted to post what I bought today when I went to Barnes and Noble along with something I am considering. For Christmas, my mom and stepdad gave me a book card to the store as they do almost every year. I love that present because I always use it. This time I actually went with a plan on books I wanted to buy, which is unusual, and although I planned to get books from my "want" list on GoodReads, I did end up with one new book I had never heard of until I saw it on the shelf.

One of my reading goals for 2012 is to read 10 books in The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (might change it to 8, couldn't remember how long the series was) which I initially started reading in high school but only made it 3 or 4 books in. However, I couldn't find books 1 and 2, just 3 and 4. So, I had to buy the first two books in order for me to reach the goal.

Then I bought Game of Thrones by George RR Martin because my reading group on Writing.Com will probably end up reading it in February. Right now only 6 have voted on the poll but the majority is leaning towards that book as the one.

The final book that I bought was one I had never heard of until I saw it on the shelf. I went through my list of books I wanted on GoodReads on my phone and couldn't make up my mind, then saw this one and bought it. The book is The House of Discarded Dreams by Ekaterina Sedia. Read the back of the book and decided to give it a try. Hard to pass up a book that includes "a psychic energy baby living in the telephone wires..."  Will be an interesting read, I hope.

Now for the other part of the blog post. While I will always love and prefer paperback books, I could really use an e-reader. My sister has a nook and my stepdad has a umm something or other, it's not the amazon one(kindle) and he buys his e-books from Barnes and Noble but it isn't a nook either. He still prefers print over the e-reader but does use it. Sister absolutely loves her nook. And even with my love of paperback, I can see that having an e-reader would come in handy.

When I renewed my Barnes and Noble membership (along with the books I bought) I also got a coupon for 25$ off the nook color. So I thought I would look the nooks up and consider them. And I am rather tempted to buy one of them. The color one is kind of pricey though, even with the coupon. There is the simple touch, which is only 99$ right now, and that one wouldn't be too bad. But the color one is tempting even with the higher price.

Not making any decisions yet, but it's under definite consideration.

You'll love your ereader once you get one. I loved B&N and wish we had one closer to home.

I still need to decide if I'm going to get one. Mom just got a nook tablet. So now mom, stepdad, sister and grandma have an e-reader.

I just got a Kindle Touch for Christmas. Very happy with it. Been reading ebooks on my phone for a year and found the ereader really convenient. Having the actual Kindle has much more of a book-ish feeling.
Still like real books too, just will be spending less on paperbacks.

Did you decide to go for it Dawn? I nearly bought a kindle at Christmas but for now I'm sticking with reading on the computer with the cloud reader. My little netbook is much like reading on an iPad. I much prefer print books but read a ton of e-books too.

Thanks for the comments. Due to having to move sooner than I had thought (was given a deadline), I have to be responsible and wait on the e-reader. Maybe after my birthday I will get enough to buy an e-reader then. I don't like reading on the computer since I spend so much time on the computer already and reading is my break from the laptop.

I love to read both ways! Of course, I'll always love printed books, because I prefer to feel the book in my hands. Nevertheless, it's great that an e-reader is portable and we can find so many websites like All You Can Books with free eBooks or paid. It's interesting to read on it...you can have a big online library with many of your favorite books and the latest Kindle has Wifi and you can watch movies and play games!

I love my Kindle, but I don't expect it to replace all my book reading. I like the feel of a book, and the antiquated page numbers instead of percent read.

I think I've read one or two Wheel novels - long time ago - and I recently bought the first three books in the Thrones series. I'd like to read those too. Let me know how you do with both series.

I once thought I would never ever own a Kindle. I got one for my b-day and love it. I still love my paperbacks, but having a Kindle means I don't have to drive anywhere to buy a book mentioned on the blogs.

Hi Dawn
As it happens the news last night did a segment on e-readers. They showed the kindle and nook color versions and said that the nook had more apps that you can take advantage of. The iPad is great if you want to do more than read. Because you can watch movies, play games, take pictures, and all the internet stuff. There is also a teacher here locally who runs the middle school library. He bought 250 nooks last year for his students and plans to buy another 250 this year. That really made the nook more appealing to me than the kindle. But, I haven't personally tested any of them though, so this is just news I've heard.

I bought the Nook Color first, then the simple Kindle Reader. I prefer the Nook because of the touch technology that makes it so much more flexible, and because of all the Apps that are available on it. But I can access the Kindle much faster, and there are so many books that I want to read that are only offered through Amazon. Thus, I love both of my eReaders! (And I also, being old fashioned, still love the printed book too!!)
