V is for Values

Not my own or yours, but characters. One aspect of building a character is to consider the types of values that they would hold close to them and what others they wouldn't honor. Value systems can say a lot about not only the character but also the world of the story.

List of Values:
Here are some values, the rest can be found at list web site
Abundance
Acceptance
Accessibility
Accomplishment
Accountability
Accuracy
Achievement
Acknowledgement
Activeness
Adaptability...

But what are values really?
Definition: Important and enduring beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what is good or desirable and what is not. Values exert major influence on the behavior of an individual and serve as broad guidelines in all situations.

What does your character value?
Do you use values as a focus in any of your stories?

Hi Dawn. I'm concerned at your lack of comments! Are you doing the rounds, or have you given up? Just wondering. It is such hard work to get comments.

As always (I read the posts I've missed) you have good points. I think it's important for our characters to have values and for these to be challenged through events in the story.

Denise - Thanks. I struggled the past few days with commenting and also posting so the two with 0 were also posted far later in the day than normal. Though oddly, while this blog slowed down in comments, the other (that had 0 comments on posts in the beginning) has picked up comments on every post lately. It's kinda interesting how that worked out. Thanks for commenting.

Thank you so much for your kind comments on my blog - and I do heartily recommend Up!
By the way - in my middle school and high school (it was one establishment) all the pupils were in "houses" (like in Harry Potter)... My house was "Unicorn", which meant the satin lining of our burgundy, ankle-length regulatory cloaks was a fabulous primrose yellow. I've loved unicorns since then - many children's books have unicorns too, so I've read some with my girls.

Magic27 - That sounds like fun, Wish I could have been in a Unicorn house. I will have to look for unicorn books when I have kids. Thanks for the comment.
